Who is allowed to have a SPS provided cell phone?
- Deans, Associate Deans and Executive Directors are eligible to receive an SPS issued cell phone with voice and data plan.
What models and plan does SPSTech support:
Currently, SPSTech supports the following mobile phones for SPS staff:

iPhone upgrade and replacement policy:
- iPhones may be replaced or upgraded on a rolling 3-year cycle.

If the iPhone is damaged before the end of the 3-year cycle, SPSTech will contact CUIT to find out if the user is eligible for an upgrade. If the user is eligible, SPSTech will upgrade the cell phone. If the user is not eligible for an upgrade, the phone will be repaired or replaced with the same version.
Are other employees allowed to received an SPS issued cell phone?
- Yes, employees that work outside of normal business hours and/or frequently attend work related events off campus may be issued an SPS cell phone with justification from their supervisor.
Is the employee allowed to use mobile hotspot?

With the manager's approval, mobile hotspot can be activated. The cost of mobile HotSpot is $15/month.
Is the employee allowed to have international voice and data plan, when traveling internationally for business or personal trip?

With manager's justification and approval, the employee can request CUIT to activate the global plan on their cell phones. The cost for activating global plan is $15/month with unlimited data and $2.49/minutes for calling. (Voice calling should not be used internationally).
Are employees allowed to port their personal phone number to CUIT billing?

No, this is no longer permitted
Are employees allow to port their Columbia cell phone number to a personal device upon offboarding?

No, we no longer support this option to have the number ported to a personal device. If the number was ported from a personal device previously to a Columbia device then this option may still exist for some legacy users.
Do we replace accessories if lost or broken?

No, In general we do not replace any accessories including charges, headphones, cases, screen protectors, etc. If these items are required upon supervisor approval they will be charged to user's department.
Do we replace damaged devices?

If your device is damaged due to any reason that is not covered thru Apple’s 1yr limited warranty then the device may repaired at cost. If the user’s supervisor approves the cost of repair it will be charged to the user’s department, otherwise the user must provide a personal payment method.

SPSTech does not designate any particular repair shop or method, however we do recommend that users refer themselves to an authorized apple retailer.
Do we replace lost/stolen devices?

Option 1: We will replace your device with an older device in inventory.

Option 2: If option 1 is not available, we will contact CUIT to verify if you are eligible for an upgrade. If you are upgrade eligible, with supervisor approval, SPSTech will order a replacement device.

Option 3: If CUIT determines you are ineligible for an upgrade then you must pay full retail price for the replacement.
Note: Supervisor approval is required for option 2 and 3.
